What is STEM?

STEM education integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into the North Carolina Standard Course of Study by using real-world problems to teach critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. STEM education is a learner-centered and interdisciplinary approach that connects these four subjects, often through hands-on, problem-based learning.  The goal is to create innovative and logical thinkers who can solve complex problems and are proficient in the technology needed to meet the demands of the 21st century. A STEM approach to education prepares students for a wide range of future careers and equips them with transferable skills applicable to many job sectors.
